Album Description

Excitable Boy was the album that broke Warren Zevon into the mainstream, largely on the strength of the hit single “Werewolves of London.” But the album is so much more than that novelty smash. Zevon’s songwriting is razor-sharp throughout, balancing dark humor with genuine pathos. From the mercenary saga of “Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner” to the heartbreaking “Accidentally Like a Martyr,” the album showcases Zevon’s singular ability to mix the sardonic with the sincere. Produced by Jackson Browne, the album features contributions from members of the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, and other L.A. luminaries, giving it a polished California rock sound that perfectly frames Zevon’s idiosyncratic vision.
